Knowing when to seek emergency or urgent care isn’t always easy. Distinguishing between emergencies and situations that can wait for a regularly scheduled appointment is tricky, but there are certain signs that indicate your pet needs help right away. Additionally, some situations always require immediate veterinary attention.
If your pet exhibits any of the following symptoms, please contact us right away:
- Large wounds or lacerations
- Uncontrollable bleeding
- Eye injuries
- Bleeding from any orifice
- Obvious signs of extreme pain
- Lethargy or lameness
- Collapse or loss of consciousness
- Distended, painful abdomen
- Sudden, unexplained behavior changes, especially aggression
- Refusal to eat or drink for 24+ hours
- Inability to pass urine or feces
In addition, emergency veterinary care is always recommended in these situations:
- Difficulty during labor or delivery
- Car accidents
- Fights with other animals
- Ingestion of or exposure to known poisons/toxins
